Indonesian Tall Ship "Dewaruci" Visiting Long Beach
The tall ship KRI Dewaruci is visiting the port of Long Beach at Pine Avenue Pier from August 29-September 1. The public are invited to tour the ship during its stay there. Its main mission is to extend Indonesian sea and cultural diplomacy by visiting about ten large U.S. ports.
The ship is operated by a crew of 92, while 57 cadets in training from the Indonesian Naval Academy also sail aboard. The crew and cadets are also skillful performers of diverse varieties of Indonesian dance and folk culture for public viewing. The featured art forms are, among others, the Rampak Kendang Dance, Saman Dance, Reog Ponorogo, Poco-poco and the "Genderang Suling Gita Jala Taruna" marching band.
